The audiovisual installation xx explores the connection between image and sound. Inspired by 8-bit music and low-tech devices, with the help of electronic circuits and electro-mechanical devices the work explores new models of modern music production. A system purged of all the complex mathematical operations that are used today for the production of sound (from bridge connector to bleeder chain) generates sound of an imagined wave form. The installation is interactive, enabling visitors to draw the imaginary wave shape on the interface, and an electromechanical device turns the visual representation of the wave into a mechanical wave, that is, sound. The relationship between the visual and the sonic is at the centre of the installation’s interest and with interactive methods the sonic reaction to the visual representation of the wave is investigated. The installation opens up the possibility of experimental creation of music that apart from sonic qualities is dependent on the visual base. The outcome of one-way communication, or the transformation of one medium into another, is necessarily unpredictable, as the visitors will be able to find out for themselves.
